since going to the Tri Glide, I've change gear a little, but 2 wheels;
DOT helmet, sometime 1/2, 3/4 or full...depends on weather...
gloves, I like the tan full leather work type gloves, lamdskin is the softest.
Boots, HD or police type...
jacket, I have a leather mesh and a HD mesh..both good jackets, winter I go to leather or my Gerbings Union Ridge heated clothing.
Pants; just Wrangler jeans, but I do have a pair of HD leather jeanes that are comfortable...

i wear a 3/4 helmet, safety glasses, gloves, jeans, boots, and depending on weather, my leather jacket with or without liner. i refuse to dress up like a pirate to ride my harley. i know it's a bad idea to wear a nylon jacket of any type, because if you turn over and slide down the road at all, it'll melt into your skin. not a good thing.

+1. I was going to add the same comment. I don't know first hand, but a good friend of mine does ...

Ride safe.

One of the new things I've switched to is googles. Been riding for years and always thought they were kinda dumb and not very cool. I'll never go back. I put 'em on, and my eyes are protected in any conditions. It's great. Highly recommended.

So, WITHOUT TURNING THIS INTO a thread flaming others about what they should or should not wear, and, in the interest of learning what is good and what is crap from first-hand users, can you tell me what gear/brands you ride in and why you like it or you don't....specifically in the summer.

One thing I am considering is some draggin' jeans MAYBE with the knee and hip armor?

Thanks.
I've crashed enough times to know that good gear makes a huge difference between walking away with bruises or being carried to the hospital.

Draggin jeans without armor will save your skin in a crash but not your joints/bones. With armor it will save everything. I generally wear mine (without armor) for easygoing casual rides around town.

Out touring spring, winter and fall I either wear my FXRG leathers or my Aerostich Roadcrafter. Both are fully armored and waterproof as well.

In summer out touring I wear perforated leathers, also armored.

Half helmet, Levi's, leather gloves, Leather jacket (lightweight or heavy), if it's really hot t-shirt, HD boots, Oakley Scalpels. Also sustitute leather vest or a denim jacket
Haven't worn a full face helmet since my sport bike days....long time ago.

First gear, Olympia, HD FXRG, The textile stuff is very practical because it uses layers...depends where you live...Since you are in MN layered stuff would be beneficial...here in the south not so much in my opinion...It also depends on how much you want to protect your body and how you want to look...With all that said visit stores like Cyclehear or Metric dealers as well as Harley stores in the winter and make a educated decision while you don't have to rush into it.

While not cheap, I don't think you can find a better, more versatile leather jacket than the FXRG. I like the Draggin' Jeans, but they really get hot in the summer. The Lee Parks DeetTours gloves are overpriced but very, very good.
