that was a great write up atrain. the pictures were great and helpful too.

 

The big bore project is done...Kind of. I turned the key and the starter just clicks. The battery doesn't have enough juice to start, so it is on a charger. I had a feeling the battery was about to go, so no big surprise. I am going to start part three this evening and hopefully both the bike wil be running and the final write up posted tomorrow.

 

Man that sucks! get her all done just to hear the dreaded "click" howd those heads look? what did your final compression ratio end up being?

It wasn't the battery. The battery charged right up. Before I charged the battery, all the lights were on real bright and the radio worked. I was wrong.

The clicking was the starter relay in the fuse box. I swapped relays just to make sure that was not the problem, but it wasn't that easy. I checked the starter connections and they are perfect.

I pulled the starter and will start troubleshooting this evening. This is aggravating, but let it be a lesson that anything can happen in a project like this.

I pulled the starter and came to the conclusion that I need to take it to the dealer for additional troubleshooting. Two screws on the back of the starter are powder coated and I'd rather not strip the screws and take this problem to another level. What did Clint Eastwood say? "A man has got to know his limitations."

 

Garcou, the heads look great. I will have plenty of pictures in the final write up. Compression will be real close to 10.25. I did a real quick check on deck height and the gap was insignificant.

Can you quantify "insignificant"? Are we talking .001" or less? .005"? How far in the hole are the pistons? I'd be shooting for as close to .000" as possible. As little as .005” in the hole is going to affect your compression ratio by .10 of a point.
