Trouble with cams going south on Road King
Anybody know anything about the cams going bad or bearings seizing in cams for 1999/2000 Road Kings.
I have a late build model August 1999 Road King and worried about cams going out.
May replace them with gear drive this winter.
Any input appreciated.[sm=americanasmiley.gif]

RE: Trouble with cams going south on Road King
Pre-2000 twin cams had an update to the cam chest area. The part number is 24984-99 and contains camshafts, cam bearings, cam bearing support plate, cam sprocket, cam chain, cam tensioner, oil pump, hydraulic lifters and gaskets. Harley-Davidson Service Bulletin M-1100. I believe HD moved away from this kit.
There is another kit 17045-99A that I believe just updates the cam bearings. Comes with inner and outer bearings, chain, newer roller for chains, O-rings, two rocker cover gaskets, cam chest gasket, etc. Everything you would need to replace all of the bearings and clean the relief valve including the roll pin. I would change the inner cam bearings to Torrington bearings.
