Just to offer the "other: side....Tne '06 has a "short stroke" 88" meaning the piston travels .38 " LESS everytime it goes up and down. And it goes up and down on a cold forged crank, vs the arguably weaker cast crank of the '07,

A 95" upgrage, ( just pistons and jugs,) matches the power of the '96 without the excessive wear and tear. You plan to ride alot? I wouldn't touch an '07...

Please ask around in here about '07 Crankshafts....

My 95" FLTRSEI is at 82,000 and still stong, Good Luck in whatever you decide.

I have an 06 SG thought I made the wrong decision when the 07's came out.If you are like most people you WILL make it your own ...with upgrades....With a bad economy I would get the one thats cheaper.Been watching my bike depreciate to almost nothing.....10K to 13k and I have a tour pac, hopped up motor.and a bunch of other stuff that is worthless at trade............cash is king...lowball him a cash offer on both if you can.

Definitely the 6 speed and 96TC 07 bike and price seems OK however I bet they will drop a bit more off it.

Well somebody's always gonna take the other side! Seriously, biggest bang for the buck at face value, the '07. But if you're a high milage rider, I like the '06. Forged crankshaft, not cast. Lower piston speed, ( those pistons travel over a mile farther in an hour on the '07 ( 3000 rpm at 4.38" stroke vs 4.00" for the '06,) that's wear! ) and the crankshaft run-out issues in the '07 would worry me. A 95" kit on the '06 gives pretty much the same power that you'll get out of the 96" '07.

But you do what's right for you.

You need to knock it off. Keep trying to tell him the 07 engine is weaker and won't last just as long.

I'm really satisfied with my 07's performance since I completed the mods last year. There's a significant improvement in torque in all gears. Before the mods it had no ***** at all in 6th and ran hot because of the lean/stock setting of the EFI system. The stock cams may be good for emissons but lousy for the performance level that most of us want.

Since the changes (listed in my sig) there's plenty of torque (even in 6th) and she runs cooler. Additionally, she even sounds better. Especially when I really goose the throttle.

You're a big guy (240lbs) and you're going to want that improvement in low-end torque. Especially when the wife is aboard (not implying that she's heavy).

I have the guys on this forum to thank for providing the info on what modifications would be best for my type of riding and is at the same time affordable for me.

With only 1200 miles, I would opt for the 07 if I were you. Whichever you choose, best of luck!

If money's not the issue, go with the 07.

My last bike was a 2003 Elactraglide with 5 speed and 88 motor. My current bike is an '08 Street Glide. I like the Street Glide better because it is newer, has less miles than the Electraglide, and looks better. I like the Electraglide better because it had a 5 speed, zero problems, and got way better fuel mileage.

In other words, the 6 speed isn't all it's cracked up to be, I'm now starting to have the compensator problems inherent to the '07's and up, and I could go way farther with my 5 gallon tank than I can with my 6 gallon tank. I also can't feel that much difference in power between the 88ci and the 96ci. (yes, I had free flowing exhaust and air cleaner and PCIII on both bikes)

The troof will set you free.

You'll get a LOT of opinions here. I'll say this, I had the same choice to make when I bought mine for the most part and in 07 picked up an 06 Electraglide Classic with 896 miles on the clock for $13k even. 2nd 06 I've owned and wouldn't trade up. It's paid for and in time, I'll do the same to this engine as I did with my other 06. Personally, I'd buy the 06. Chances are you can get a great deal on it and all of the 06's didn't have a carb ;-)
