Look into the Vance and Hines Monster Ovals or Rounds. Slips on over your stock head pipes. Nice deep low tone. A little noise without pissing off the neighbors.

Samson's Decibel Killer mufflers for dressers and Road Kings have a db of 83-85 at idle. They fit all models from 1995-2011. Performance is much better than stock as well.
Thank you,
JR / Samson

Try American Custom for around $200 you can retrofit your stock pipes. Get the mid range baffles and if you still want them louder drill some extra holes in them. While you are on the web site check out the sound clips.

If I go with louder mufflers will I have to retune the engine?

+1 . I just put the V&H Twin Slash Monsters on my bike. Nice thoraty rumble without the hate from the neighbors. Same sound as the Monster Ovals for about $100 less (and better looking IMO) They can be had for just over $500 at Dennis Kirk. You will not be disappointed.

I did the HD stage 1, SE mufflers with fish tips, SE AC, and download for $808 dealer did it all. SE's are tough to figure for me. When you want to show off, they are not loud enough. Yet if you ride even 30 minutes with the wife and stereo, they are just right.

My buddy's Rineharts sound better

Thanks
Get a quieter wife. Problem solved.

Agreed but don't forget plain ole Screaming Eagle slip ons. They are just slightly louder and look good with a choice of tips to choose from.
