18" wheel/Brembo conversion problem
Trying to put an 18" front wheel from a 2010 SG on my 2006 SG, got the 2010 axle, spacers(2 identical), nut and washer. Also using the Brembo brakes, these are from an 08 Road King. Got it put together and the brakes are binding. Without the calipers the wheel spins nicely, as soon as I install the calipers and tighten the mounting bolts it drags so bad I need 2 hands to turn the wheel. Anyone have any idea what may be the problem?
The only issue I had when assembling it was the spacers seemed tight going in, had to spread the forks slightly to get the second spacer in place, but that may have just been due to me struggling with it by myself.
Thanks,
Joe

Check the calipers
If you are getting the wheel to rotate without the calipers being snugged down, check to make sure the calipers don't need to be shimmed so that they are centered over the rotors.
I don't have a manual for your bike and I am just trying to think through the issue. I could be completely off base with my suggestion. Best of luck!

Check to make sure you didn't get a wheel from an ABS bike, the left side bearing on an ABS bike is thicker than non ABS. You should not have had to spread the forks to get it in. The fork legs are the same from 00 to 11, the axle size is only different in the center of the axle where the bearings & spacers run, the part that goes through the legs is the same as the older 1" axle.

The only difference in the chrome front end kits is the different axle covers for the newer axle, the legs are the same.

This was it, dumbass that I am I didn't double check the bearings. Guy I bought it from said it came from a non-abs bike so I ran with it. Oh well, just a reminder to double and triple check EVERYTHING when wrenching.

I did a 18" on my 07 and my calipers where binding...the 18" wheel is offset a little. Small fender shim on the right caliper and took a little off the left caliper with a dremel and it works good. There is no OEM spacer that fits perfect.
I used a flush mount 08 and up axle and 07 and down spacers on a non-abs wheel.
