Oil Cooler Advise ?

I run HD premium w/thermostat. All coolers should work well with airflow. Stopped in traffic, I imagine the units with fans are the only ones doing anything. Local Las Vegas and Henderson patrol officers shut their bikes off when at extended stop. I do the same. Next chance I get, I'll see if they're running coolers.

This is my first bike with an oil cooler on it(HD Premium OIl Cooler), had it installed when I bought the bike last year. I rode in 95+ degree heat and also in heavy traffic and this is the first time I have not had any overheating problems at all. I also use synthetic oil. It's made a believer outta me!

I know, it's cold outside, but I'm remembering every time I was stuck in traffic last summer that my Ultra got so hot that it would barely idle. It didn't take much either. Even when the temps were in the mid 80's, it would act so bad that I had to turn it off and wait for it to cool down.
I'm using HD syn oil and the oil temp still gets near 260.
I think I'm gonna break down and buy a oil cooler. Which is the best? Some have fans and others don't. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

I was gonna put on the HD Cooler last summer, but after speaking with a guy that I know that has one, I changed my mind.
He says that his Ultra fully loaded with wife and their gear going 80-85 down the interstate, the temperature gauge still hits 300 degrees.
That's when I decided to go with the Oil Bud. http://www.hotbikeweb.com/tech/1003_...ion/index.html
They guarantee a 35 degree drop, so even at twice the price of the HD I figured that was the way to go. It does not disappoint.

I used the Jagg 10 row lowmount, it worked very well for me. Oil coolers work, period. Different manufacturers and models may work to a slightly greater or lesser degree, but they all work. You'll find a lot of folks that will argue they don't work for many reasons, one of the big ones is "they don't do nothin' when you aint moving". No they don't perform to their maximum cooling potential with no air moving across the fins of the heat exchanger, but they don't completely stop shedding heat either. Consider this, even if it did stop working completely when you come to a stoplight or get caught in traffic, your operating temp will still be lower when you stop moving, than it would be if you didn't have the cooler installed. So at least your temps will stay cooler for longer. Avoid looking for answers that quantify the specific temperature value of the results others have experienced; its like predicting the output of a fantasy motor build, way too many variables. Pick a cooler, any cooler, and like its name suggests, your oil will be cooler. It sounds like you are already entertaining the idea that cooler oil would be better, so I think you will be happy with a cooler.
