Default Break a tour pak hinge or lid from weight?

I know there are limitations here, but I borrowed a buddys bag (HD version, but like the Kury Gran traveler) last year when wife and I did a few day trip and she packed it FULL. I was kinda nervous and was very careful when opening and closing the lid on the tour pack, it flexed a little, but seems to hold up pretty good. I hope I get no responses that say someone broke one, but am going to get a bag this year and just trying to do the proper homework first. Thanks for any input. BTW I use the Premium HD rack

have seen a couple of posts here the last few weeks about tour paks breaking- so careful.
one of the guys said his cable snapped...

when touring my bag on the rack is carrying a sleeping bag and is light weight- anything heavier, I would remove from rack before opening pak.

When we go on a trip I put all the light stuff in the tour pak. One for the weight the other it gives the bike a lower center of gravity.

I had my cable snap... then, when the fully loaded lid fell open, it snapped a hinge. UGLY

Snapping a hinge would be preferable to breaking the tour-pak, I guess. I always use the rack bag for light stuff like rain gear and things I might need on the ride. Heavy stuff goes lower, lightest stuff goes higher.

If I have to use the tourpack rack, I use a small cargo net and put either a roll bag or my leathers on it - and remove them before opening the tourpack. it's a lot stronger closed than open...
