Angry flywheel rubbing against chaincase

When my 2008 road king was still under warranty i found some metal particles when doing primary oil change, the primary sounded strange also,i reported to the dealer, told me he took the primary chaincase cover off and all was normal,

Now i decided to replace the transmission sprocket and going with a S.E compensator.
what i saw when removing the clutch assembly the tooth of the flywheel was rubbing the chaincase at one place doing a deep scratch , now i know where all this metal came from.
mainshaft and race bearings looks good no scratching or anything else, the crankcase was well installed???
Is somebody has seen that before , any idea?
i want to have good idea what cause that before i go back at the dealer to argue it's no more under warranty

thanks

I don't have a parts book in front of me to be certain.
However, I believe there is a bearing inside the clutch basket that rides on the trans mainshaft.
Sounds to me as though yours has let go.
The main cause of this would be an over-tightened primary chain.
As the primary gets hot, the chain gets tighter.
With that said, if it was adjusted tight while it was cold, it only got tighter.

Your mainshaft could also be bent.
I'm doubting this is your prob, though.
There would be grind marks in more places than the one you describe.

Argue with the dealer all you want.
It's not going to get you anywhere.

Badpiggy
on a 2008 the chain tensioner is not a self adjustment after been installed??
the bearing you are speaking about is it the clutch shell bearing , it rotate freely no sign of wear??
So with the dealer i don't expect something but i will let him know how i FEEL

Also check the back of the clutch hub. Some have been loosing 1/4" of the spline.

You can see in the earlier pic the first 1/4" of the splines are broken off. I also have a mark on my inner primary. Like rrabos and bvhog mention in the other thread I suspect the trap door has flexed. It was there at 20000k and hadn't got worse the last time I looked. Have also seen the splines like that on a bike that lost the bearing.

My bike had that mark at 10000 miles and my buddies bike had the same mark at 12000 miles then when we change a friends fluid and checked things out he had the same mark it must be common.I checked all the bearings and shaft run out its all good i figured things flex a little when cranking the throttle. If harley would have relieved that spot just a little no one would ever know that things flex under torque.

I just put a SE compensator on my 08 Road Glide last weekend. My inner primary has the exact same marks in exactly the same place as Lonewolf.
I inspected everything, splines, bearing, clutch, primary tensioner, etc. I even pulled the inner primary to check things over. Everything looked fine so I put it back together. Runs great but sure makes you wonder.
My RG has 22k miles and a hot 103.

I will be watching this carefully.
Thanks,
Doug
