I just put heat demons on my 06, it was pretty simple, came with awesome directions. took me a couple of hours. Cant imagine the HD ones are much more complicated. $450 sounds excessive to me.
$450's excessive. The TBW sensor is already wired, so all you'd have to do is pull the fairing off, run the wires through the left bar, then connect everything.
Not even sure whether or not $450 is too much... But have you considered heated gloves instead?
My Limited came standard with heated grips and they're ok, but now that I have a little first-hand experience with them I'd never spend the money to add them. They are better than nothing but they won't keep your whole hand warm in all conditions. They will keep your palms warm but my fingers have still become numb-cold even with the heated grips maxed out...
If I did a lot of cold weather riding I think I'd much rather have some nice heated gloves.
How involved is the HD heated grip install on a 2011 Street Glide? The dealer wants $450 to do it, seems excessive.
Check out oxford heated grips. About $70 for the kit and high quality. It took me about 1/2 hour to install on my XR1200. There is no soldering, everything plugs together. At $450 - someone is trying to rip you off. On a scale of difficulty of 1 to 10, where 1 is an oil change, and 10 is a transmission rebuild. I would rate installation difficulty as a 1 or 2. High quality heated gloves like the Gerbing T5 are about $170 plus the cost of a temperature controller. Heated gloves are more comfortable at colder temperatures. If what you are going to pay for heated grips exceeds this amount, IMO get the gloves instead as they are a better solution to cold hands.
i installed a set from harley on my 2011 road glide. it is not that easy. faring, fuel tank and fues box all have to be removed to do the wiring install. i have done two bikes, my last bike wash an 08 street glide. took me about 3-4 hrs to do it without messing up anything. exracer3
