Default How 'delicate' are painted inner fairings

Gotta admit that i would love to have a painted inner fairing on my roadglide. I keep wondering how careful I would have to be with the piece tho, and whether it would get scratched up over time with average use. How do these painted pieces hold up?

Good question, I have just done it and made a small chip during installation. I do have some paint left to touch up but will have to wait and see how robust it is

Mine's been painted in Vivid Black to match the rest of my bike. It's held up for over 2 years with no problem. It really gets no "use" per se. The only paint that gets real wear is on the tank where my blue jeans rub. I use Meguiers Scratch X on it when it starts to show the tell-tale swirls in the clear coat.

it gets no more scratched up than your saddlebag lids, or your fuel tank, etc...
all depends on how you treat your bike.

Mine has been painted (black pearl) for 2 years and it shines just like the rest of the painted plastic.

On my Ultra, mine is vivid black gloss and it stands up just as well as any other painted surface on the bike. I would also say that it's no more fragile than any other surface. I did order it from HD, so I can't speak for the durability of an inner faring that gets painted by the local body shop. There could be a difference there, but on the other hand, a good local shop might even do a much better job than HD! So go for it!

This is a good question from the OP. I was curious about this last year. I guess my worry is the flexing with warm and cold weather and having the paint crack. Wonder if some kind of plastic paint is being used or if they are just spraying them with base and clear??

It should be no different from the other ABS plastic parts, no?

Exactly! But really, what wear and tear does an inner fairing take on a daily basis? Mines gets dust settling on the flat spots, and a few fingerprints. It's only a few hundred bucks, max, so just get er done and quit worrying.

It gets lot less wear and tear then front fairing or fairing lowers or even saddle bags, tank, tour pack and so on.
