Is this a belt drive that is concealed within the factory primary cover or is this an open belt drive setup?

It's not an open belt. The factory outer primary goes back on. I had to use a die grinder to remove a little metal from the inside of the cover to make clearance for the pulleys and belt. Once there was no mechanical interference, I put the chrome outer primary back on and the bike retains the stock look.

Bryan TTM, it's not wet, that would defeat much of the purpose of the modification. Is your final drive belt a wet system? No. BTW, since it's a belt drive, there is no need for the compensating sprocket (I assume that is what you are referring to when you say compensating nut). The belt has a damping property that eliminates the need for the compensating sprocket needed with a chain primary drive. Just like a chain final drive needs a cush drive hub in the rear wheel, and a belt final drive doesn't.

Now let's take it for a ride. Still waiting for the call.

I was off for eight days - go back on Tue -Wed, off Thur-Fri, but have to work Sat -Sun. Stop by the station next week end if you are in the area.
Grrr...it seems you always have days off that I have to work and vice versa. Last Sunday, while you were at the station, I rode out across Death Valley into Nevada, had a steak lunch .

I thought belt drives needed to be open to be cooled. I have seen cutaway primary covers on some.

First, I wish you the best of luck with your new belt install.

I run a 3" open BDL belt drive. Before that I had a 3" open Primo belt drive. I have had them on my bike for about 14 years and I beat them hard. I have not had a belt failure.

I have seen many belt failures on the narrower belts and enclosed belts. Belt technology has come a long way but I still don't trust enclosed belts.

Here is a picture of one that we used in a bike build we did last year. We only used it because the guy we built the bike for already had it. At the time he picked it up we told him that would be the weak spot. Well here is a picture of the belt after 700 miles.

NOw that's not a pretty sight! What belt drive kit was that that failed in 700 miles? I have the BDL 1.5" Kevlar kit, it has a one year warranty. I average 700 miles a week on the bike.
