Stevaki - I agree with you that the screen is to look over not look thru' , it's just I see a lot set up for looking thru' (including my mate) and they all bitch like hell when it rains.

I am on my second king and the story is the same both times. Windshield comes off in dealer parking lot and friend that gave me ride brings it home for me where it goes in storage shed.

Allmost allways on. I did cut it down so I could see over it, and allways wear a half helmet. Without shield feels like my head is being pulled off by my helmet.

I never have a windshield on no matter how far I am going. The buffeting is just to much for me. I have tried different heights and no change.

I almost always use the shield on mine. Without it, anything over about 50 mph and I feel like the wind is trying to blow me off the bike. Maybe my seating position is to straight up or something (Mustang seat, RK "high" bars). Funny thing, on the sporty I don't have this problem at any speed and I've never had a shield for it.

I do agree that the RK looks fantastic without the shield. I love to take mine out on the backroads without it but for any high speed stuff, I've got to have it on.

I only got 2 months of riding on my new to me RKC this fall. I'm 5'10" and with my sundowner, my sight line is 1-2" over he stock shield. I like it. Way to many bugs in MN to be without. In my younger days back in the early 80's, while in the USN in San Diego, I put 25K on a metric one year with no shield, helmet, or even glasses most of the time. No bugs on the coast, and I suppose being a lot younger then made a difference too.

When I got my RK it was the first time I had ridden with a shield, hate to admit I like it, so much more relaxing. However when riding around town it does come off as I much prefer the 'look'! But if I am going to do any interstate riding it goes back on. I find I an ride at 70-80mph with no buffeting. I have a Memphis Shade screen and I see 'over' it.

With screen

Without screen:

Off around town. On on the interstate or with the wife.

I prefer riding without my shield even with these handlebars.

Round town - no shield.

Long freeway driving - shield.
