Only time I use my windshield is when I go to work at night. Riding on I-95 can be dicey sometimes. It's nice having that protection from debris... otherwise, shield-less for me.

The reason I am asking about this is because I test rode an '11 RK Standard yesterday. Overall, I was very impressed. However, the windshield was an issue. At 5'6", I was looking through it - and getting some buffeting. Since most of my riding is local and I tend to use my my bikes as commuters, I can usually get away with riding without a shield. I see now where HD has some smaller shields for the RK that use the stock mounting hardware. If I pull the trigger on an RK, I'll probably pick up the 16" or even 14" shield.

I've gotten pretty spoiled with the windshield, especially on the interstate. It's brutal without it past 70 or so. Summer time puttering around town it's off the bike. And the king looks bad *** when it's off.

Mine comes off around town but is always on for long trips. When I got it the top of the shield was right at my sight line and it was a real pain. I shortened it myself with a jigsaw and a blade rated for plastic. Taped off the area with blue painters tape so nothing would get scratched and marked the cut line on the tape.
Everything worked great.

I never take mine off anymore. Even with ear plugs the wind noise is just too loud for me. Years ago I didn't even notice it. F'n old age I guess ...

Looked thru the stock one, and over the replacement. LRS lists this as 17".

Windshield? These bikes come with a windshield? I've been riding for 37 years, and this is the first bike I've ever owned with a windshield. I tried it out one day and after that, it's been on the wall in my garage. I guess I might give it another shot on a long trip, but if it's under 200-300 miles, it'll be on the wall.
