Front axle stuck and now nicked up.
I went to remove my front wheel today to start a few mods when I discovered the axle would not budge. I had to use a socket extension as a punch and a 5# hammer to pound it out. Apparently the spacer on the right side was seized. When I got it thru far enough I remover the end cap to get it out the rest of the way.
By forcing the axle thru the spacer I noticed some scoring on the axle. Shouldn't the spacer slide freely onto the axle??
Can this cause problems or should I replace it and the spacer?
I also noticed when I took off the axle nut that the washer was deformed as if maybe over tightened before. The center was pulled into the fork hloe and it looked cupped.
Maybe a good opportunity to go with a flush mounted set up

Replace that axle and spacer. Use anti-seize liberally when reinstalling the new axle and torque to 50 ft lbs. Now is the time to think about installing a flush mount axle. There are several companies that makes really nice ones, I'm running one from Klock Werks. If you go this route, torque spec is 40 ft lbs. Good luck.

If the axle is not to bad,you can sand it with some fine wet/dry sand paper. You can do the same to the ID of the spacer.
The washer should be replaced.
Use some antiseize on the axle and spacers at reassembly.
Good time to check the wheel bearings.Make sure they rotate freely.
