CD's left in their jewel case and carried in the tour pack or bags will end up with small circular scratches. They are vibrating and rotating in the jewel case. The CD drive makes no physical contact with the recorded area of the disc, so leaving it in the drive should not result in scratching.

OK-- for reference and what it's worth....may or may not be applicable to your individual problems but:

Service Bulletin M1289 issued 11 October 2010 nominates a change to the handlebar clamp screws of touring models built after approx 07 October 2011.

Bikes affected are all touring models including CVO bikes equipped with the HK radio system From MY 2006 to 07 October 2010.

The essence of the bulletin states that if a problem with CD skip or other CD problems exists, the two forward handlebar clamp screws may be contacting the bottom of the HK radio chassis causing skip/other issues via vibration.

You (or your dealer if your still in warranty) need to look for contact between the forward handlebar fasteners and the bottom of the radio chassis. New fasteners are available that will eliminate the problem if it exists on your bike.
Only models presently in warranty will be covered to have the screws replaced by a dealer of course!

New fastener part no. is 12600003 and you will need 2 of them.
Replacement time nominated is 0.8 hours.

Are you sure they are not getting scratched stored in your saddlebag? I ruined a few that way when I first got my SG.

Default not the saddlebag

Yep, I am sure I know the difference, because I have ruined them that way too. But you can tell for sure these marks are from it spinning, not from vibration or getting hit or moved or whatever ya want to call it. The prime example, as stated by someone else, I make a new one and put it in the bikes player and nowhere else, when taken out you can see the damage begining to happen after a few weeks.
