Sweet aint it! Sucks I had to pull my bulb though, I didn't realize I had 55w bulbs in the AUX lights, all three together were running my batt down in slow traffic. I'll fix it this winter with a relay.
Yeah - the difference is huge! Can't believe it made so much difference - especially on my SG, with only one headlamp. Total no-brainer for the price IMO. I just got home from a 1000 mile trip, with more night riding than usual, and decided something had to be done. The stock HD setup is pretty much useless on dark mountain roads at night. I was looking at the LED setups, but it's tough to justify that much cash right now...maybe take another look if they ever come down to $200.
Thanks to all who contribute on this forum. I've made countless upgrades/improvements based on your shared experience and feedback.
I installed the Hella E Code last week along with my existing 135/125w PIAA Super Plasma GT bulb. Haven't rode it at night yet but will sure be curious....
My HID is much better at night than any of the replacement bulbs you can buy in my opinion.
Yeah, I imagine that's true. But the e-code solution is hard to beat for $70 total and 15 minutes installed. I was looking at HID a while back, but my new setup seems to be satisfy my needs - at least until the next-gen LED's come out, and get cheaper. IMO.
I have the harley LED lights up front and they are remarkably bright. they do have limitations though. I noticed while riding through the valleysaround Sturgis at night that they are very directional. It is light where they are shining, and dark where they are not. Friends experianced a flashing on/off sensation as they came into and out of the beam.
Did you need to adjust your headlight after the install? Mine seems to be aimed left, and maybe high (high-beams are up in the trees a bit)...
Yes, mine was off, but I don't recall in what direction. I found a lonely road with no street lights and used that environment to aim them. Not very scientific but it worked well. Besides, the factory adjustment procedure might not be right for the E-code lights.
I set the height using the low-beams. Just set the horizontal cut-off, which is very distinct with these lights, just below eye-level for oncoming drivers.
