Extended warranty
Thinkin' of pulling the trigger on a new bike tomorrow and was wondering about the extended warranty. I was thinking of waiting and buying the extended near the end of the manufacturers warranty and was wondering if I could shop around, as some on here have suggested, and safe the difference in costs waiting entails?

There are a lot of folks who have a problem with the warranty. I however, have used mine a couple of times. It has paid for its self as far as I'm concerned. When a clutch tooth broke off, the $ 50.00 deductable was easy to take. At that time the bike would have had to sit for the funds to come available. and the tire/wheel insurance has come in handy on a long trip. I say go for it.

It all depends on the dealer. Extended Warranty usually refers to the lengthened time period that the HD dealer will swear that a particular part or parts are not covered due to the fact that you:
- rode the bike
- washed the bike
- rode next to a Goldwing
- used inferior gasoline
- failed to use Sny3
- replaced an air filter yourself
- revved the engine
- lugged the engine
- fantasized about owning an Indian

I just purchased it on my bike because I didn't have it on my 07 RK and wished I would have had a warrenty last summer when I spent $700 in repairs. I have friends who have had good luck with it and the wheel & tire warrenty so it was a no brainer for me. Its just like any other insurance you have; until you need it it's a waste of money. You have to decide if you want to take the chance.

I didn't get the ESP on the Night Train. If I had, it would have been wasted money. I got it on the Limited, it paid for itself in the first year in tires alone.
If you ride 3,000 miles a year and never leave your home area, it's probably wasted money. If you put serious miles on your scoot, plan to keep it for more than a year or two, and go on long trips, it's money well spent.
