Handle bar options RKC
#2
On my FLHRCI i ran the RK highbars for a few years but finally made the switch to 14" apes. I gotta say i wish I would have done this when I bought the bike! So much more comfortable. I have a comfort stitch seat on it so I sit a few inches higher than stock and Im about 5'11". These things are in the sweet spot. My hands are below my heart and my arms are in a nice relaxed position. Its well worth the expense of cables, brake lines and an hour of soldering wire extensions.

I believe the original bars that came on the Custom were beach bars so they'll be a bit wider and lower than what came standard on the RK and RK Classic bikes. Here on the forum there are lots of threads of RK and RK Classic owners who've changed their bars out to HD Softail Heritage bars and are happy with them...use the search function at the top of this page to find those threads.
Good luck.

the only thing i didnt like about the Heritage bars is that you cant keep the bar inline with the forks without having a messed up wrist angle.....you have to pull them way back to get your wrists to sit right. Im a stickler for keeping the bars straight up and down with the angle of the forks.

The Heritage bars are a major step up from stock. They make the bike much more comfortable.
However, I feel they are a stepping stone to the your next set of handlebars.
The Heritages are close to the max bars you can put on without the expense of changing cables, lines and wiring.
I am putting togeather all the parts to do my next set of handlebars, here is my list:
1. Handlebars = Wild Ones 502's 12.5 inch Apes
2. Clutch Cable +6
3. Brake lines +6
4. Wire extensions
5. Poly Bushings
6. Grips.
Other options under consideration
1. Chrome control housings
2. Chrome control buttons
3. Stereo control switches
This is why many people learn to live with the Heratiges. The cost of going to more ranges between $500.00 to a $1,300.00 depending on what you change and who does the work.
One other thing, get the seat that suites you first!!!!! if you do it second you may be changing the bars again.
