Not to hijack the thread or anything, but I was wonder how changing the wheel size to 18"-21" effects the ride and handling of the bike? I'm looking at buying a 07 FLHX and this would be the first thing I would like to do. But coming from a sporty I really don't want to sacrifice much of the ride quality.

 

Ice - that 21 front sure looks sweet on your bike. I just switch over from a WG to a RG. I hated the handling of the 21 on the WG. How different is the handling on the RG between the 21 and 16? I'm assuming the 21 handles better on the RG than the WG because of the rake but I'm curious as to the difference in handle on the RG Stock versus 21.

BTW, I found some crazy looking baggers with 21 front and 200 and 250 rear. I found them at FATBAGGERS.COM, in the gallery section all the way down to the bottom of the page. I don't know how these setups handle but the look impressive.

 

Hollywood - The 21 will effect the ride on a bagger a little, but no more than an 18" would. They both have a shorter side wall than a 16. The handling should not be that different either. Keep in mind the 21 tire on your WG was probably a 90/90/21. The 21 tire that most people use on the baggers is 120/70/21. The stock 16" tire size is a 130, so you really aren't losing that much contact patch.

Your 18 looks perfect! It looks custom, looks professionaly done and does not look like it is over the top.
For some 21" is fine but it is the look you like that counts. It is funny that all of us - me too - who try to make our bikes custom to our liking end up asking others what they would do. If that was the case Id spray my bike black. : - )

With the 21 X 18 Wheels the ride hasn't really changed, if anything when you sit behind the Bars it gives you a more aggressive stance and feel
