Default Using the cigarette lighter as a power point?

On page 72 of the owners manual for my 08 Street Glide it states: "The lighter is not intended to be used as a power port for electrical devices. Damage to the lighter receptacle may occur."

Thats strange - anyone ever have any issues?

I have a mini-LED flashlite in mine (don't smoke), but heard many use for powering phones, GPS, etc. w/no problems. Just gotta watch the cord & tank when turning bars...

I power my GPS with mine. Been running it there for two years with no issues.

Default Interesting

Not a whole lot of help but I thought they were the same and as long as you did not overload it I would have thought it would not matter. Must be a clip inside that the lighter hooks to since its a bike. I know my truck has two plus the lighter. Never used the power ones because they are low down and just plug my air pump in lighter for my boat trailer. Guess I ought to look what's in the holes. I think mine are the same. I know they are a heck of a fuse/relay for the three in the #2 fuse box. Think is 60 amps

I use it for the GPS, for the Ipod and for the phone. No problems yet.

Thanks Iceman. My old chevy seems to handle it fine. Maybe these new Harleys aren't tough enough?
Would never try it while riding - camp ground use only (cell).

You don't have a problem with the GPS plug hitting the tank? I have an 11 FLHTK too and wanted to plug my Garmin in there but it has such a long plug I thought it might hit the tank.
