I would plug in a tire inflating device and would blow the fuze. I switched over to an Electrical Connection socket with an internal fuzed wire and it solved the problem.
I replaced mine with a powerlet outlet. Looks better and I can use their 90 deg plug so it clears the tank.
I know what power outlet your referring too but the "90 deg plug" who's is it and what are you running with it? Sorry if I missed something. I'm not a very smart person and I always need more details than most people.
May be a coincidence, but I noticed my lighter out after I plugged a tom tom into it. Tokm Tom may or may not have been the culprit, I don't know. Haven't tried to fix it yet, and it's been a year.
this has been on here before and I think it was kind of figured it was the room of some of the longer plugs on a full turn so they just say don't use it
Buy a Road Glide and then there is no problem like this. :-)
My 2010 SG manual states the same. I need to check the fuse size because I planned on running my Slime brand tire inflator that I used to use for my atv's.
Heck, I didn't know that I had a cig lighter until I read the manual!
No problems powering my GPS or charging my smart phone...
maybe the key is making sure the power adapter for whatever device you are using is not too long, so it doesn't make contact with the tank when the handlebars are turned fully to the left...
On page 72 of the owners manual for my 08 Street Glide it states: "The lighter is not intended to be used as a power port for electrical devices. Damage to the lighter receptacle may occur."
