I don't know that a theory can be proven without empirical evidence.
My own experience is that there exists no direct correlation between the model of motorcycle and either the frequency or distance ridden.
Of the guys I ride with, there are mostly ElectraGlides. But, many ride 2-up at least some of the time. Never really paid attention to the number of SG versus RG versus RK... never seemed important to me.
Some of the guys ride Dynas or Softails or Sportys, but I never thought to ask them why they chose that model either. My guess is that everyone has their own reason, and it's likely different than others.

I will admit, you are the first I've ever heard suggest they quit riding because they tire of stopping for gas....LOL If i was in that predictament, you can damn well bet I would be converting my hardbags and trunk into gas tanks before i tired of riding...LOL
