Unhappy Odometer counting while sitting still!!!

So I recently purchased a 2006 FLHRS with 14200 miles on it....

I am new to the HD scene and looking for some tips on this oh-so-strange problem.

Here is a little background in case it is related.
-Upon picking up the bike we realized the rear stop-turn-tail light was not working "aftermarket." The dealer and I did some quick troubleshooting and determined the LED pcb itself was bad "probably"

-I have not yet replaced this light assembly, and have noticed some strange things.
----1. The security light randomly comes on.
----2. The check engine light randomly comes on.

Now I think those lights are coming on because of the faulty tail light, correct me if I am wrong. I guess I won't know for sure until I replace the light.

Heres the real problem......

It seems that the miles have been racking up faster than I have actually been riding, I have suspected since day one that the spedometer/odometer is not accurate.

Come to find out it skips and counts on its own!!!
Pulling in my driveway today I witnessed it go from 15073 to 15080 while traveling 100 feet, then I stopped and watched it continue to count to 15090 without even moving!!!!

I didn't even know this was possible and really have no idea what could be causing that to happen.

Suggestions???

Rip that tail light assembly off before even turning that key back on.

Proceed with troubleshooting afterward.

I've heard of some goofey issues related to those tail lights before, but I do not remember the details.

I'd get them off immediately, until the rest of the problem is solved, then make a decision afterward about reusing them.

Can't help you with your problem but you may have a low mileage bike there.

Wonder if the ECM has the real mileage or would it be wrong as well.

I'd say get the dealer to fix it. Isn't illegal for a dealer to sell a vehicle if required equipment (brake light) is faulty?

...definately needs to re-calibrated. Do you have an aftermarket tuner? I know on my Thundermax tuner/settings there is an option/code# to be selected for the proper matchup to your particular bike setup. I initially chose the wrong # upon installation/setup. When I saved the settings and took the bike for a ride it said i was going 60 MPH when i was really moving along around 25 mph in second gear.
I would guess your ECM could be faulty?? Try cutting all electrical power to it completely and maybe let it reboot/reset itself... something simple enough to check

They once "claimed" it would be illegal to give me my bike back unless I purchased a new rotor from them. LOL All I wanted was some tires mounted, I let them talk me into some brake pads, then they wanted to get me for even more.

I got my bike back with the existing rotor and never saw another Harley shop since. Never did have an issue with the rotor, either. LOL
