Default 09 FLHTCU sluggish

Seems my 09 FLHTCU with V&H Monster Oval slipons with everything else stock, is sluggish in 1st gear. Even with stock slipons no change. Anyone have ideas how to fix the problem or is it just the nature of the beast.

If it's been like that since new, I'd guess it's just the stock tune in the control module. It seems that in order to meet EPA regs, the stock tune on almost all bikes is lean at least in some areas of the tune. I've added a tuning module to the last two bikes i've owned and the difference has been noticable. Not only is there more power, the throttle response is much smoother as well.

There is a lot of information on this forum about tuning through the search function if you're interested. If you decide to go this route, before you make a decision, I'd recommend you talk with Fuel Moto. They are a forum sponsor and you will not find better customer service.

I have basically the same configuration on my 09'. I just keep it wound up.
After 2800-3000rpm it seems to come into it's own.
Bounce it of the governor when you need to get moving, you aint going to hurt it. Bear in mind the stock configuration has slightly more Hp than the 1966 VW Beetle.

Default Sluggish 09 FLHTCU

The monster ovals wil make some really nice sound but without a less restrictive Air Cleaner you won't see much performance improvement. Then you will want to add some kind of Fuel Management System.

Check out Fuel Moto's SE Stage 1 air cleaner with Lifetime Warranty and possibly the PC V to go with it...

Those were the first three upgrades I did, Monster Ovals, SE Stg 1 AC and PC V...

Then's if off to More Displacement, Cams, Head Work, Auto Tune.... etc....
