Default Price for a race tuner and dyno

Local dealer is advertising a race tuner installed plus dyno for $650. December special - is that a good price for this? I have a stage 1 with a Fuelpac and was considering upgrading so that I can do future mods such as cams.

Thank you,
Brent.

In my area that would be a decent price. Race Tuners are around 500 and a dyno tune is around 250 - 300. As long as they have a good reputation for tuning you should be fine. Youcaneven sell your fuel pak and get a couple bucks back.

What is a race tuner? How is it tuned?

A Race Tuner is a device that communicated between the ECM on the bike and a computer. It allows the user to write new MAPS on the bike. It can be tuned on a dyno.

Either. All you need is the tuner, software and cables to hook it up. But since you have the Thundermax it wouldn't benefit you at all. You already have the ability to edit your MAP. You just need the software and the cable.

Some of the newer tuners (TTS, SEPST) will allow the user to record data and make correction to the MAP for tuning purposes. Do a search on smarttune or vtune and you should find alot of valubale info on it. But like I said. You would have to get rid of the Thundermax and go back to a stock ECM, then purchase the tuner, cables, software and do it. You're better off keeping your current set up. It will do everything the other tuners will, and more.

Do the cam at the same time, it'll save a few hundred on doing the Dyno over again.

Sounds like a real good price, but I would do all the mods you plan on doing first. Other wise you will have to drop another $300 on a dyno every time you did a different mod.

I agree with you, so far I have Fat Cat Boss 2 into 1 pipes and a AN Big Sucker on the bike. The only other mod that I would do is cams. I just don't know if I have the $ to spend on them. Anyone know how much it would cost to have SE 255s or 555 cams installed?
