thoughts on 2-tone tank paint job on road king
#41
Thinking about painting my 2005 Road King which is currently black cherry pearl. I like the color but would like something slightly different. I have borrowed a couple photos and Photoshopped what I was thinking about.
Any thoughts or suggestion for other colors. I know they did this with black on the bottom but that's to dark for me.
hope this attachment works
Thanks

[QUOTE=Whiskers;7653739]My tank came two-tone but I added Birch White to the fenders and side panel a couple years ago...and I get lots of compliments on the outcome. If it was me, I'd also consider adding whichever color you go with to the front, rear fenders and side panel. Have your photoshopper add some Birch white to the picture and see how it looks. One note: There was a thread here sometime ago with those who bought bikes with cream saying the contrast between cream / white wall tires is a bit irksome, and that white paint looks better with white walled tires.
all depends on what you like...roadkings were made to be retro looking like the ol panheads...originally all the original pans I ever seen only had 2 tone on the tank not fenders and they didn't have side covers, so if your after a original retro look I would keep fenders solid and only 2 tone the tank JMO

My '07 had a 2-tone tank, but solid fenders & sides. Front was smooshed when I got it, so I bought a fender from a member that was Gl.Wht.Prl./Bk.Prl. Had my painter save the black center band, and shoot the GWP to FRP, and match pinstripes. Still have solid sides/rear, but I'm happy with where it's at. Fender badges in honor of its insurance salvage start in life with me.

I just wish I could photo-shop, I have a lot of ideas.
Something you may want to consider is finding a local sign shop that does wraps. Get them to print out a section of material to match the color you want and then you can trim a fit it to your bike. This would allow you to actually see what it would look like on your bike and if you don't like you peel it off.
