Default New Harley take off parts

Anybody actually seen what happens to the "new take off" parts your dealer has that were left by customers? Usually dealers tell customers to pick up their take off parts and take them home within 14 days or thereabouts, else they will dispose of them. I am talking about handlebars, mufflers, exhaust pipes and various chrome doo-dads and geegaws that we all have.

One dealer in the area simply puts them in a Big take as you need box... I was laughing the moment I saw it. You hear about all these big screw jobs at dealers & there was at least a good 1k in parts just laying there for anyone to take.

I've bought quite a few take offs from my dealer at super sweet prices.

I assume many people leave their "take off" parts behind. I am taking mine home in case I ever need to return my bike to stock. The only chance really would be the exhaust if a noise bylaw is ever passed but I also don't think it's fair for the dealer charging me for new parts then selling my old ones...

Take off parts are yours. Give them away, keep them "just in case", or sell them.

Salt Lake City resells them in Spring sale so he makes money again. You should see the folks scramble, including myself, for someone elses stuff.

+1 on this one. Even if you are taking delivery on a new bike with something like upgraded mufflers, etc., you still paid for the stock ones and they should be given to you unless you authorize otherwise. Unless, of course, the dealer credits you back for the stock stuff....but I think you have a better chance of seeing God
