Any internal engine modification WILL void the warranty.

The ones that tell you it doesn't would surely find a way to not pay if you wanted them to honor it.

If higher lift cams were a great idea with long motor life wouldn't HD be putting them in from the factory?

 

I had the cams done and the 103 kit in two different shops and they said don't worry about it that it will be covered.

 

On my last bike I put on a SERT and right on the box it said could void your warranty. Imagine that for good marketing. I would love to sit in the room with all of these marketing brainstormers and really see and hear the dialog.

 

Not to hijack this thread but I'm thinking of doing the same with mine and have the extended warranty. Is there anyway to cancel it and get back a prorated amount like you can with an automobile?

I was going to do cams and talked to the dealer about it , he NEVER said anything about it voiding the warrantee? I also was going to put on a new headpipe but that will stay in the attic as I was told by mechanic's it is about 3 HP you will lose staying with the OEM ( with the cat ) and putting on slip-ons and A/C . So I just saved about $2K and lost 3 HP and a little TQ , not bad for the money I saved and Warrantee I can use, Right? With all the upgrades in here being done and the money spent it's amazing that if you did 1/2 of them you could still make your bike more Crisp and save some money for other items you could put on it. I remember when buying a HD always buying the one that was the most STOCK cause this way the people before you did not have a chance to screw it up

So is the reg and extended warranty covered by HD corporate or by dealer? If it's dealer and the dealer goes out of business, then your warranty is shot. I bet the extended warranty (and reg warranty) is through HR Corp. Thus, you can have your dealer "sign" some paper work about a new cam being covered, but I bet if you bring your bike to another dealer, they have the right to say, warranty void.

Just my 2 cents and at this time, it's just a guess as your right, it's a mystery some times.

 

Sounds like you got the correct answer ~ dealer discretion ~ I have had 29 HD's and ride 30 - 40k per year... Had a few bikes break way out of town ~ and the warranty call is in the dealers hands... Factory & Extended.... I am a firm believer in the extended spent 10k on my last Ultra but on the 10 Limited I have had no problems with 26k on the clock ~ Guess We'll see....

 

Look up the "Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act"

It is a Federal Warrenty law that applies to ALL states. It states very clearly that any warrenty can ONLY be denied if PROVEN that what you added CAUSED the problem needing repair.

SO...If you change a cam, and your Tranny goes out...its still covered.

Your add ons to the bike will NOT automaticlly void your warrenty, UNLESS what you do is clearly defined in the actual warrenty documentation. In HDs case, towing a trailer will void the warrenty because its clearly stated. Using non-harley Oil...will not void anything unless it can be proven that the oil caused the repair issue.
