One piece clamp for apes on 2007 and older bikes
I was just wondering what the consensus was on how necessary this clamp is HD-55918-08? Yaffee recommends it. My dealer was not so familiar with this, but stated I might consider polyurethane bushings. Any thoughts?
For clarification I am going to be installing 12.5" wild one chubbies on my 07 road king.

Haven't you learned that the dealers are not knowledgeable enough about their own product to give sound advise? Even poly bushings are not enough to overcome the weakness of the two clamp setup.

I road my bike for 80k miles with 39 inch wide bars and the stock one piece clamp and never thought much about it until I started seeing all the talk about how you gotta have a once piece clamp. A few months ago, I took her back apart and put on a Sporty top clamp that I picked up at a swapmeet for a couple of bucks. I could tell that it took quite a bit of movement outta the bar set up....and yes, I already have poly bushings.

Cheap, and the longer bars need the support to reduce twisting and bowing producing metal fatigue. There are quite a few stories of apes snapping in the middle with two piece clamps.
I've seen chrome flaking off bars between two piece mounts (older bikes admittedly) and I've gotta think that twisting and bowing has something to do with it. Why take the chance?
