Default Why are the brass fairing nuts such a POS

Seems every 2nd or 3rd time I remove the windshield one of the piles of garbage strips out of the inner fairing.

Well, one of mine broke in half inside the inner fairing. I didn't do it. I know how to be gentle but seems the tard that took the windshield off didn't put the rubber trim back up top so it tightens too far.

I'm assuming there is supposed to be a rubber trim between the inner fairing and the windshield? Just makes sense.

Brass is very soft. It strips even easier than stainless.

I had my 04 and now my 08 and never (knock on wood) stripped one. I've had my shield off and on so many times I can't count.

You can find these at your local Menards in the hut and bolt section. They are pretty much sold as a wood insert that you can run a maching screw into. If you get the HD repair part and take it there you will find them much cheaper.

Never had any problems with mine, & I've had the windshield off a lot of times.

I got a bunch at ACE hardware. They call them well nuts. They're cheap and the exact same thing HD uses.

BTW, you don't need to tighten them very much for them to work. Snug has always worked for me.

80,000 miles and fairing off and on at least 25 times and never had an issue. (2004 egc)
