I've had one of three strip out. I haven't replaced it yet. It never seems to move or attempt to work itself out. I have had it off and on three times since I discovered it was stripped out. I just pop it out and pop it back in (screw and all) every time. No problems so far. That being said, if another one does the same thing, I will replace them. I am sure they are cheaper than a new windshield.

If you're talking about the brass insert into the inner fairing it may seem tight when you snug them up after you've stripped them but they are just clamping both sides of the windshield and not really snugging up to thr inner fairing. You can tell when you ride cause the side thats loose well vibrate. I've stripped one out since 07 and in an attempt to fix I actually broke the plastic housing that holds the brass insert. I went to Lowes hardware and rebuilt that part of the holder with a two part epoxy/plastic compound which I had placed the insert into before it set up. Than I drilled into the side and tapped it out with a 6/32 tap and set a allen set screw, it won't come loose or spinb now. BY THE WAY THE REASON I STRIPPED THE BRASS INSERT WAS I WAS TIRED OF THE SCREWS COMING LOOSE SO I USED A DAB OF BLUE LOCK TIGHT, DO NOT USE AND ADHESIVE OR LOCK TIGHT ON THOSE THREADS.

Have had a couple that I had to run a tap through but haven't had to replace any yet on 2 different batwings.

BTW, you don't need to tighten them very much for them to work. Snug has always worked for me.
Thats how theyre designed to work! They are considered a "consumable" part so they are not designet to last forever.
For the guy that removed his 25X w/o issues how the heck did you reuse them? They get weather beaten and on a FLTR they get distorted. I always keep 5 on the workbench when I know I will be taking the fairing off.

I'm assuming there is supposed to be a rubber trim between the inner fairing and the windshield? Just makes sense.
There is it's a self adhesive weather strip.I found a roll @ Home Depot that looks identical to the stock stuff. It's weather strip that goes between a camper shell and truck bed.It keeps a lot of moisture and dirt out of the fairing. Aprox.1"x1/8"

I guess I've been lucky. No problem with my '07 batwing. JB Weld won't adhere pieces of the batwing together however I can see how it would adequately fill an insert well and keep the bronze insert in place.

This forum introduced me to JB Weld. Good epoxy.
