Default rubber dust covers on shocks

I was cleaning my bike and noticed that both rubber dust covers on my shocks are ripped. Does anyone know where to buy replacement covers? Are they really needed?

Just replaced my buddies (03' RKC) rear shock dust covers. They were also ripped so, we went to my dealer service mgr and asked if they had any rear shock takeoffs, he said "sure". They even had a guy take the covers off and GAVE them to us. Not all dealers do this and this is why I keep going back to this dealer. And YES, they are needed.

HD does not sell replacement boots unless you can find a dealer that will give them out like the above poster said. Another option that others have had success with is buying from NAPA a Shock Mate Boot Kit pn# SA1997 and trimming the excess off. See attached for a photo of the part
