Anyone help me with ppg paintcodes for the later model harleys

 

Yes. Your PPG jobber.
This isn't the big mystery that people make it out to be. If you have a non-CVO Harley you can go to any PPG jobber and they can get the paint codes for your bike from their computer. They can then mix up anywhere from a pint to a gallon of whatever flavor you like and recommend the proper clearcoat for your application.
If you have a CVO bike you are out of luck. HD keeps them under wraps so they can control the use of the CVO colors. Not sure why they do this anymore. When the CVO's were limited editions it prevented people from counterfeiting them. But now they produce as many as they can sell. I guess they want some control to keep the illusion of exclusivity.

 

My daughter works for ppg and has some contacts, however, ppg sells paint in bulk to hd and not the final mix, even her contact cannot get the ratio from hd so no one else can supply correct paint. Its a very guarded piece of info.

 

Well, that's interesting, because I went to the PPG jobber two years ago and got all three paint codes for the Crimson Red Sunglo on my last bike. The sheets he printed out had the mixing ratios for both the base coat and the color coat. Told me he could mix up however much I needed.

I crashed that bike later in the summer and traded it in on my current bike. THe dealer sent it to the local painter that they use for all their collision work. He's a friend of mine. He mixed the paint himself and did an amazing job of color matching the damaged area on the fairing.

Again, I can lead a horse to water, but I can't make him drink. If you have gone to a PPG jobber and he couldn't get the paint mixed for you, then chime in. My experience was different.

 

Tx for your help guys. I live in the uk and can only guess what a jobber is?. Would that be a paint supplyer?.
PPG paint is available in the country but the local distributers dont have access to the 6 digit codes that correspond to PPG colours for harleys.
I paint a lot of late bikes for the local harley dealer in the uk but some of the later colours are very hard to match on the colour scanner.
Even the local harley dealer doesnt have access to the codes....mad!!

 

I can try and help you I have access to alot of codes and paint formulas for PPG.
However, a friend dented his front fender on his 2012 SG Tequila Sunrise paint job and we have been trying to get the code for that color.NO BUENO!!! I even put pressure on my paint supplier and he could not get it.Harley told him to buy a new fender when he called the MOCO.lol. Guess how much that fender is!!!! Anyway let me know if I can help....

 

Looks to me that Vivid black has been consistently 9850 the whole time, making it a safe bet the number will likely be the same?

 

Any ppg paintcodes on the later harley models would be greatly appreciated..
