Yeah use AMSOIL 20/50 for the motor and primary, than use redline shock proof gear oil for the tranny. The 20/50 is too thin for the tranny to keep it quiet. I had the 20/50 from factory in 07 and as soon as I got the bike home I drained it and my trannys been quiet ever since, 25000 miles and runs quiet and smooth. Oh I ride a 07 FLHTC

I have owned many brands of motorcycle over the years.

My experience tells me to use products purpose made for these bikes- oil is a crucial part of the cooling system on these bikes.

and change at or before service intervals- ALWAYS store a bike with fresh clean oil.

my newest bike is a 2009, I can't believe how nice and clean the oil is coming out at changes, with I still do at 3000 miles.

oil is cheap, filters too

There's nothing wrong with Harley oil but there are better products on the market. You said it yourself, "oil is cheap" so why not use something better? Isn't your bike worth it?

v-twinn is not needed in the motor,it just has less or no friction modifiers in it so its safe for the clutch, since our motor oil never gets to the clutch your just paying a higher price for oil that has less friction modifiers.

Where are you finding Mobile 1 VT and Mobile 1 15-50wt? Can't find it at the local Wal-Marts here in E. Texas.

Engine & Primary - Amsoil 20W-50 Motorcycle oil
6 speed - Amsoil 75W-140 Extreme gear oil
5 speed - Amsoil 75W-110 Extreme gear oil
6 speeds have helical cut gears and exert much more side pressure on gears under heavy load conditions.

Nothing else is a substitute for the above recipe

HD oil is over priced s__t.

i was using royal purple max cycle for the first two years of ownership on my 08. then royal purple magically went from 7.99 a quart to 12 bucks a quart. that's when i went back to syn 3 harley oil. most of it is finding what you like and changing your oil and the right filter as per schedule.

SYN3 is fine, I just don't think you should use it or any other oil for that matter based solely on price.
