Default Your thoughts on 05 Road King

A buddy of mine works at the local dealership. He knows I have been on the lookout for a Road King. I just sold my 08 Deluxe and want to pick up a RK with the cash I made off the sale.

He just called me up and told me he took in a black pearl 2005 Road King with 18k. They have to run it through (due to it being a trade in) but he says they would be willing to let it go for 13k (but I know I can work with them). This bike is damn near stock and looks to have been a garage queen.

I am thinking of shooting for 12.5k out the door.

What do you guys think? Is that still high or about right???? This bike looks new!

Thanks!!!

Check prices on Ebay, there's a couple for less than $10,000 & quite a few for less than $12,000, there's a 2009 RKC for $12,988 BIN. I've seen a lot of 2009s in the $14-15,000 region, you are getting a lot better bike with a ton of upgrades for a couple grand more. They depreciate the most in the first few years & then level off, I think it's always best to get the newest that you can afford to get.

not the best year for the TC 88 motor --- the price is high -- slow down do your homework and find a 07 or later --

Gotta agree with previous posts. Look for an 07 or newer. 6 speed trannny instead of 5, more cubic inches, upgraded cam plate and cam chain tensioners. Worth a grand or two more in my opinion. I bought an 02 three years ago for $10K will 10k miles on it, wish I looked for an 07 for a few more bucks. I've got a friend who is selling his 05 RK with a 6 speed, big bore kit with cam gear drive, Vance and Hinds true duals, upgraded spoke wheels with wide whites, rider back rest, a Dead Center fairing with stereo, under 15K miles and tons of chrome for around $10K. He just shipped the bike from NY to his place in Fla and has it on Craigs list for sale. I'm not promoting the sale ..just giving you an example of whats out there. Lots of garage queens now for good prices, look around a bit before you pull the trigger on the 05. Good luck!

I'd take that

As for the "damn near stock" bike your looking at, there's one on the board at work: smoky gold '05 RK custom with a tourpak and LOTS of goodies and low miles asking $13K. I know the guy, I'm sure he'd email you some pics.
