Check your bags

Check your bags
So I'm out in the garage messing around with my 2010 street glide, took the saddlebags off to install the HD Siren, Put the bags on the bike, go to close the lid and pow, the latch comes off in my hand. My first reaction is to check again to make sure the lid lined up then realized that everything was correct. The next thing I notice is that there are four bolt holes that were open and there lays one little 3-5mm screw laying in the latch with red locktight on the threads. I looked for the others and no other were around only the one. I checked the other bag and all 4 screws were in the latch. The only thing I can figure is that whoever assembled the saddle bag only installed one screw.
Tomorrow I'm calling the stealer, this is ridiculous.
I was just wondering if this happened to anyone else?

Same thing happened to me. My latch fell apart in my hands about 50 miles from home. Luckily I had the appropriate bungee cords to secure it. Went to the dealer as it was still under warranty and they gave me replacement screws but the latch turned out to be bent so they replaced the whole latch. I was looking at it to see what the problem was, and I noticed the loctite that comes on the screws when you get them was about halfway up the threads. The problem is only the very tip of the screws are in contact with the latch. I now make the latches part of my regular inspection.

Heard about this from earlier posts, but mine were OK & have never come loose. Another thing to watch are the locking pins used to hold bags on bike. The ends tend to separate apart & can come out. Riders have lost hard bags on hwy...changed mine to clevasse pins w/key & they're not coming off.

Iceman, that's a great idea. I had seen some had posted about using U clips on the outside and using bolts, but I never really liked that idea since I take the bags off pretty often to clean the bike.
Think a trip to ACE hardware is in the plans to get some of these. You know what size you used?
