It is good to keep traditional terms alive- such as Harley-Davidson ( always hyphenated) Big Twins were introduced with the "rear-fork" in 1958.

Some terms are trademarks, some are engineering terms, but using them sets us aside from riders of other brands.

The alphabet soup model designations are part of our history as are the special terms that apply only to our brand of motorcycle. Like the names assigned by the Motor Company (because it was formed to supply motors for uses other than and including motorcycles ) to the paint colours used at the factory.

Consider that the original ( to 1953) Indians were "Motocycles"- no R.

And that very rarely will a rider of another brand get a tattoo with that brand name.

Kickstand and centerstand for all the bikes I've ever owned. It will be hard to change.

So what did they call the "kick starts" that used to be on then?
They sure were't kicked.... they were pushed with the leg and foot, not kicked.
How bout' jiffy starts, cause they started just right up, right?
I'm sure the guys back then had a few real nice names for them...

I actually call it a kick stand, but it does go up and down in a "Jiffy"

From what I understand it was originally designed by California Highway Patrol, so perhaps they gave it that name? Kawasaki and Moto Guzzi have also used that design on their Police bikes.
