Default Street Glide Cigarret Lighter

Just picked up a 2011 SG 103 and was reading the owner's manual. It says you can't use the cigarret lighter to power electrical accessories since overheating may occur.

What the heck is that? I was planning on powering my Zumo there.

Is anyone using the cigarret lighter to power a GPS? Thanks.

You are good to go. I know many that are doing it with no problems.
Anything heavy duty like a heat-vest should be powered under the seat with the accessory plug or direct.

I've got an '02 Ultra Classic but you may experience the same thing I did when you try to use that cigarette lighter hole for powering your gps..

Mine kept vibrating loose every 20 miles or so. I had to rig a little "harness" to hold it in so I didn't have to keep pushing it back in or telling it to run on batter power!!!

I'm going to hard-wire mine now. I don't like the "rigged" look!

FWIW..

They tell you that so that you don't damage the fairing. The socket on my 09 Ultra was specifically made to not work as an outlet so I purchased the HD accessory 12v plug and replaced the lighter with it; its the exact same fit but it works as a power point now. The accessory socket also comes with a nice rubber type cover with the HD logo on it so you can close it when not in use. Cheap fix for about $20 if your lighter socket doesn't work or hold the plug correctly.

Default Mine works

I power my Garmin 265WT with the cig outlet and it has worked quite well. The socket powers down with the bike so you also won't run down your battery if the GPS is left plugged into the bike. That's what I get for not reading the manual. No worries.
