i know we're gonna hear from you guys who don't want anybody to know where you are.
After a friend went down, didn't make it, and the doctors said he would have survived if he had been located sooner - I went looking for ideas.
MotionX GPS sends automatic position updates via email every 5, 15, 30 or 60 minutes. I use this if I am riding alone - especially if I am riding late at night. If I go down, the app will keep sending notifications from the same location until the battery dies, and whoever is getting the emails will know where to look for me.
I don't use it very often, and anything that keeps the GPS running is not battery friendly, but in certain situations, it's useful for me. Left New Orleans at 10 PM recently on my way back to Orlando. That's a lot of miles and a lot of hours when nobody knew where I was. . .

i could definitely see some benefit to something like this. only problem is i don't use an iphone. anyone know of an app like this for the droid platform? i searched the marketplace, but i could't find anything good.

I downloaded an app on My Droid incredible that ties into the ECM for diagnostics thru the J1850 bus. I just have to get a bluetooth attachment (elm327 module) to sync it up with the phone. It shows MPH/RPM and can pull codes. It is called "Harley Droid"
