I use mapquest. Put the phone in my inside pocket of my jacket. Feed headphones up through jacket. Gives me turn-by turn directions with names of streets. Less battery toll, no mount, etc...

I keep an external battery in my bag for long trips.

here's a free GPS app.

link to cnet for the review, and you can link to the app from there.

I have a Lifeproof iphone case. Completely waterproof, you can take it swimming if you want and its not big and bulky like some of the cases, here is their site. http://www.lifeproof.com/shop/cases/iphone-4-4s I have had mine in the case for 3 or 4 months so far and love it. They also make a mounting kit that fits right onto my road king handlebars. http://www.lifeproof.com/shop/access...nts/bike-mount I have used that a few times and it seems very secure. Last night I dremeled the bracket a bit to allow the charging door on my iphone to open up while driving. When its open the case isn't waterproof any more, so if I am in a torrential downpour I wouldn't charge it and I would close it all up.

I use the Garmin gps app, which works better than my garmin car units, it is constantly updated, although it is expensive for an app, but I thought well worth it. I also just downloaded speed controlled volume by cycle sounds to control volume levels while riding, the one mentioned earlier in the thread looks to no longer be made.

Same here on both. I just started using the LifeProof, so I don't have to worry about rain anymore. We all know iPhones and water don't play well together. I did the same to the bottom of the case and my mount - took a drimel tool to both, and now I can charge will I ride. Very happy with my case and my mount. I use a TechMount mounting system in the mirror stem hole.

I have the Garmin iPhone app too - but on long trips like the one I'm on now, I use a Nuvi so I can import specific routes. I still keep my iPhone in play for streaming music and as a backup GPS.

You can't import routes into the iPhone app, can you?
