Default Bike To Bike Communication Systems

Looking for options to allow me to talk to better half on her bike so she knows what we are doing ahead of us on long trips. We both have open face half helmets and both refuse to use 3/4 or full face helmets. Any experiences and recommendations would be welcome. Hope everyone south of our border has had a happy Thanksgiving that was happy and safe.

We went through the same questions last spring, both of us normally ride with half helmet as well. We ended up going with the new Scala G4 Powerset - which provides a matched pair of devices, the newest technology from Scala. In addition to the bike to bike communications it has VOX, MP3 player, FM radio, and bluetooth for your cell if you want it. What I really like is the distance, up to a mile apart depending on terrain. They work really well in cities and the freeways in and out of cities. We rarely use them on the open road but the odd time we talk (time for a stop, etc...). There is a bit of wind noise at highway speeds if you leave them on, but you can turn them off/on with a single touch to the button on the side of the unit.

For half helmets to hold the speakers we bought HD earpiece tabs, the speakers go right inside the little pocket, and the earpiece tab velcroes inside of our helmets. A pretty cheap and workable solution. You can actually remove the Scala from the helmet if you don't want to ride with it, just two screws. Charging is good for a full days ride generally as long as you leave them off when doing highway runs. If you talk the whole time likely about 4 to 6 hours.

Cost was not bad, they are about $550 MSRP (+/-) but we got the pair on ebay, brand new and still in an unopened package, full warranty, for $350 delivered to the door.

I am very happy with the purchase, does everything we want.
