Unhappy Made in Taiwan

Over the weekend I purchased and installed new footboards for my 2010 Street Glide. These are the ones that match the stock rider footboards. The smile came off my face after I opened the box when I saw two bags having 1" x 1/2" white stickers with black lettering proclaiming "MADE IN TAIWAN" on them. There were a number of bags in the box, but these two stickers were on the actual footboards (one bag per footboard). I don't rememebr now which part of the footboard they were on, top (metal and rubber) or bottom (all metal). The hex bolts were american (SAE) sized and not metric like the disc brake banjo bolts on my Nightster so that was good.

So much for American made. I am sure the majority of the H-D motorcyles and parts are made in the good 'ol US of A but I heard they are putting more and more foreign parts on the bikes. This is the first "sticker" with proof I have seen first hand.

I just put front and rear F/B on my bike last week, neither had a made in Taiwan sticker on them. Although it does not surprise me that yours did.

Your Harley was "assembled" in the USA but I'll bet a lot of the individual parts were made in china, taiwan, mexico etc. It keeps costs down which in turn keeps them in buisness. It sucks but that's just the way it is.

Korea, Mexico, Taiwan, japan, germany, and the occasional USA when it comes to HD. Granted it's been this way for a long long time

Welcome to the global economy. HD has been using foreign parts for decades. I worked in air freight in the late 70's early 80's and we regularly delivered sample parts from overseas for things like electronics, shocks, wheels, cast steering neck blanks that were then machined in York. etc.... I would like to see all of the parts and labor be USA made again, but I doubt that will ever happen.

CVO chrome:

Saddlebag Latch covers and Mirrors made in China, but the footboards are made in USA

All the Willie D Skull after market chrome stuff is made in Asia..

Got to watch it with after market stuff,I think J & P Cycles catalog specifically indicates stuff that's made in America, which I think is very cool.

Funny thing is I think the HD bikes rolling off the assembly line have more USA content in 'em than most people's bikes pimped out with after market items.

That said....my rider & passenger footboards, grips, mirrors & stuff are all made in USA - It's items I would have picked even if I didn't care, but I do and check before I pull out my cash.
