Default hooking up a battery tender

So i bought a 09 streetglide with all the bells and whistles. When it got cold and i couldn't ride her very much i want to hook up my battery tender with the leads you leave on the battery but i'm thinking i shouldn't just unhook the battery with the security system. so i found a little 9 volt little battery with a cigarette lighter attachment for cars (so you won't loose any memory and security stuff) but its for cars when you unhook the battery . so my question is would you trust this little gismo or just use the alligator clips and ask the dealer to put the leads on at my next oil change next summer

Its no problem for the security system disconnecting the battery. Negative cable first.

I don't think the 9 volt battery would work on a 12 volt system anyway.

Just put the leads on yourself, it's easy to do. I wouldn't trust one of those cigarette lighter charger gizmos.

Won't affect security at all...connect the leads & run them down frame, tiewrap in place & you're good to go. Remember to unplug tender before you scoot away - hear a few stories of riders taking their tender for a trip...

I just did mine ... the bike alarm gave a little beep upon the battery dis-connect,

the radio didn't even need station re-programing, it must have a tiny back up battery ...

nothing else noticed ...

There's no need to worry about the security system.

As others have said, it's a simple job to remove the battery cables and attach the pigtails for the battery maintainer. Once you have it connected, route it out under the seat somewhere and secure it where you can access it without removing the seat. Put everything back together, park the bike where you want it, and connect the battery maintainer and plug it in.

The battery tender quick disconnect works best and is easy to hook up. And yes...neg terminal first off, last on.

My RKC had one installed when I bought it, it is hanging out right above the starter area.

It's a real simple install. First thing I did on my first bike.
