Default Compensator replaced under warranty??????

Has anyone with an 09 or 10 touring bike had their compensator replaced by the dealership?

Did you have to fight with them to get it done or did they do it with no hassle?

Did you go with the SE comp or the OE comp?

Did that stop the sound of someone hitting the motor with a hammer when starting? Thanks a lot, BB

My bike is in the shop right now having the compensator replaced. The dealer is installing the S/E part at no cost to me.

I know you asked about 09's. I got my 08 FLTRI upgraded for the $50 price difference this summer. It had been making an odd noise when starting for quite some time, then just before I took it in for service it made a knocking noise from the primary when the clutch was being engaged one time. I asked them to look at it, they said the compensator was out of spec by 3 or 4 thousandths and would replace it. So I had them do the SE comp. When I got the maint. ticket they had replaced EVERYTHING in the primary under warranty even the tranny output bearing. Over $2K of parts and labor done for the $50 difference in parts.

Never a hassle or argument. My service dept treats me like royalty.

Yes the noise went away.

Taking mine in Teusday for the exchange. They have already changed it once with the OEM, and now with the SE.

Thought my dealers service dept. was good, but you guys are really gettin treated right. I will be takin mine in real soon, still under 2 year warranty, but my dealer said they will replace the OE with screamin eagle for difference in price which they said would be about 140.00.

Me, too. Dealer replaced comp under warranty. I asked them to install the SE comp. They charged $148.00. Made huge difference. No more bang when starting(although I really did like the sound. Didn't like what it damage it might be causing).

Mine is in the shop as I type this getting it done while I am out of town. I offered to pay the difference, if I needed to, to replace with the SE model. Will see when I get back what he charge, if any, is. One dealer (my selling dealer) acted like they didn't know what I was talking about, but another more friendly dealer said 'sure, bring it in"....

My brother in law isn’t registered on HDF but he wanted me to thank you all for your input on this thread that I posted for him.

He took his 09 FLH in to Ft Myer HD and had them check the compensator. They checked it and found that the spring washers and other parts were junk. They replaced it with a SE comp but only charged him the difference in cost. So out the door for 1 bill and guess what… no more hammer smack to the motor sound upon startup.

He also noticed a dramatic difference upon launch. The clutch works far better because it isn’t just loading up the comp and dumping it all at once. He said the launch if far smoother and way more consistent.

He gives a big thumbs up to Ft. Myer HD for having a good service department.

Thanks to all, Bob
