It's kinda like putting a wing on the back of a front wheel drive or like putting a bunch of racing stickers on the window of a civic. The flares on the front fender add 10hp and make the bike look faster. It's the only thing that makes sense!
It could act like an airplane wing where the faster the bike goes the wind goes under the fender and then comes back around and pushes the flares torward the ground creating better handling of the front end?
ok, its like bell bottom pants for women, on pants they make women look smaller so maybe its to make the bike not look so obese. Thats my story and Im sticking to it.
