Competition is a good thing. These guys keep H-D from being complaisant. Though it seems to me that the guys that buy these bikes somehow think they are smarter than us for not buying a harley. Just my humble opinion.

There are a lot of things HD could be doing better & some competition would do them good! It wouldn't hurt HD to stand by their product & step up when they know they have problems.. I'm not giving mine up, I really enjoy it.. But, I sure couldn't do business they way they do, and expect to win new customers and hold on to my existing ones. I still don't like these competitive bikes as well as my Street Glide, but if I find one, I'll buy it... No blind loyalty with me.

When the Japanese manufacturers compare their bike to Harley it makes me laugh and cry. I got into riding the same year Honda introduced the radically new 750cc inline 4. The same year AMF bought Harley and over the next 10 years drove the motor company into the ground. Fast forward to 2010. Harley continues to manufacture and market an air cooled vtwin and the Japanese continue to chase Harley with air cooled, belt driven vtwins. And that's progress??? I've loved all the bikes I've owned regardless of manufacturer. My current ride is a great motorcycle but I have to admit I believe the motorcycle industry, as a whole, has been dissappointing as it relates to product development over the past 40 years.
No one can "out Harley" Harley and I don't see that trend changing. Will someone please tell me what is so unique about a vtwin that precludes a manufacturer from developing a two wheeled vehicle on a non vtwin platform. There are motors that are smoother with more torque, more horsepower and today, 40 years after I bought my first bike the market has evolved into two segments: Harley Davidson vtwins and japanese manufactured Harley Davidson look alikes.
And that's not dissappointing???? Rant over.
P.S.: Interested in an innovative design. Check out the 2011 K1600GLT BMW. I'll never own one but I respect innovation.
