rpm at idle
Quick and dumb question. What's the normal idle rpm? I changed the exhaust on my bike and it seems to be idling high.

Should bounce back and forth between 990rpm and 1005rpm. I have mine lowered a bit 976rpm but around 1000rpm is normal.

Mine is a 1999 & I have mine set at around 700-800. Cooled @ the stop lights & less vibration. I rode my wifes cousins 08 UC & it was around 1000 & if it were mine I would lower it too. I have had the bike for over 3 years now & 30000+ miles (had less than 50000 miles when I got ot & has 83000 now) has the same battery & I don't use a battery tender.

Its based of engine temps. Starts at 1400 @zero temps, then around 80 degrees it drops to 1k and hovers there.

Assuming it's a late model TC, the idle speed (as suggested above to be around 1000 rpm when warmed) is set at that speed for oil pressure purposes.
Much lower then you'll start to see the oil pressure at idle drop to near zero...not a good thing.

sounds better at a lower idle, but it can damage the engine
