Called D&D and explained the pitting issue and no questions asked they are sending out a new heat shield for the rear cylinder pipe. Guess the pitting was a blessing in disguise as I now will be rid of the scratches too.

I knew they stand behind them!

Note to self: If Ya can't touch it cause it's too hot, don't try to clean it....
