Thanks guys for all your replys. I think I'll go the cooler route first, it makes more sense to me. Now it comes down to which one to buy the Touring model from LSHD at 20% off or a Jagg?

They're both good so it's up to you. I have the HD Premium oil cooler. 20% off is always good to get especially if you can get free shipping. Check with Zanotti too, they might even be cheaper than Lake Shore. Some stuff is sold at 22% off.

Well, 1fathog, just knowing the temps won't do anything except let you know... I'd say go for the cooler and lower the temps. That's what I'm doing.

I will most likely go with a cooler later. I installed the temp gauge so I could first see what I'm working with. I don't ride around town or commute and I certainly avoid cruising... I'm on the hwy, interstate and country roads 99% time. I just wanna see what the bike is doing. Also, I'm not really sure the cooler is gonna make much difference with head temps. You need a fan or air to help in that dept, yes?

I could be wrong, but I don't think an oil cooler is meant to reduce head temps. It will significantly lower the temperature of the oil.
I don't ride in town any more than I have to, but I still do. Problem is that where I live we have ambient temps above 80 for a good portion of the year.

An oil cooler doesn't work if it doesn't have "air" blowing through it. The motor will overheat if it doesn't have "air" blowing across it's fins. The common denominator here is "air". It might be ugly but you'd be better off with a fan mounted between the frame downtubes. I know HD makes the fan that mounts where the horns. That's nice but $500

An oil cooler works better with air moving through it, but heat will get dissipated with or without air movement. Just better with...

Also, I like my oil temp guage. It lets me keep an eye on things. Like when the bike is about to go over 300 and just before I start to smell burning paint.

Like others have said here. Get the Oil Cooler first. It actually does something useful. All a gauge will do is make you worry until you do buy an Oil Cooler. With a MoCo Cooler and in 110F+ Heat I've never seen anything over 250F. Normal 80F-90F day is 190F-220F . . . all temperatures validated with a Fluke Digital Immersion Thermocouple.

Had my HD Premium oil cooler installed on my 07 in Dec. 06 when all the hub-bub was "the 96" runs way too hot!!" On a recent hard run to Reno NV with my wrench on his 06 "hot rod" 95" SG, I was up to 50* cooler via dip stick temps and I have fairing lowers! Now he's a believer in lowers & OIL COOLERS!
